Essential Riding Gear for Every Motorcyclist

A true motorcyclist always boasts of fun, thrills and adventure. He loves his bike only a tad bit more than his wife or girl friend and admits to it unashamedly. There are plenty of motorcyclists around – the wannabes and the true blooded riders. What differentiates the two is that one may love his bike and wash it every day. But, he never bothers or considers dressing safe while taking his bike for a spin around town. The other motorcyclist may love his bike to death but loves his life a little more than death itself – That, my dear friends is the hallmark of a true motorcyclist – one who values his life and the ethics that comes into play to qualify to be a good rider a lot more than simply riding.

If you watch a true blooded rider, you are bound to come across the following:

Helmet:


Starting right at the top, your helmet is practically the most important riding gear you can think of. A good helmet is essentially what protects you the most in an accident. Always ensure that you purchase a good, branded, government approved helmet. A cheap helmet may become a liability and turn the tables when it comes to protection.

Leather Jacket:


I say leather jacket, not because it is cool or trendy to be seen in one but because it is extremely practical in nature. Leather, as a fabric is tough and durable. It can be worn for several years at a stretch. The sheer strength of the fabric ensures maximum protection in the event of an accident.


There are a variety of styles, colors and types of jackets available. Pick one which you think suits your personality. More importantly though is to pick a jacket that you are comfortable in. and which you would love to ride in. If the jacket is too tight or too loose, then you face the risk of distraction, which ultimately leads to unsafe riding. Some leather jackets come equipped with double lining and body armor. This is essential for those into professional racing. The body armor acts as a fabulous shield for your chest, back and arms. Leather vests, worn inside leather jackets are the optimum choice, when it comes to combating against Mother Nature’s coldness.

Leather chaps and gloves:


Just because you have a helmet and jacket on, does not mean that you are well protected. In the event of a tumble, your knees are the most likely to get scraped. Knee pads would have been a great choice if you were roller blading. For riders, I suggest leather chaps. They provide excellent protection against the elements as well.


Your hands are the most exposed part of your body while riding. A great pair of leather gloves works wonders, especially in the winters. It protects your hands from extreme weather conditions as well as dust. It also adds to the grip of the bike

Footwear:


Slippers and sandals are a big no no. Always opt for closed shoes, which are comfy in. they offer great protection against the stones that fly up while riding.

River Fly Fishing - Three Essential Pieces of Fly Fishing Gear You Will Need

River fly fishing can be some of the most enjoyable days spent on the water. But without proper equipment, a day on the river can prove to be quite devastating. I have listed below three of the most essential pieces of fly fishing gear I would not go without.

Waders

Waders come in many different designs and sizes, and you even have lots of colors to chose from. Colors such as camo, different shades of brown and different shades of green seemed to be the most popular. The camo waders are used mostly by people hunting but I have seen anglers wearing them on quite a few rivers over the years.

Dry waders is a big plus especially in the colder northern regions. I have personally experienced a cold trickle of water, trickling down on the inside of my leg. And I'm here to tell you in cold weather that is not very pleasant. I would suggest not going with the cheaper rubber waders as they seem to spring leaks very quickly. You do not need to buy the most expensive waders either, but a nice neoprene wader in the mid price range will do you nicely.

We are seeing more and more women on the rivers fishing. And smart manufacturers have come to realize that and are now manufacturing women's waders designed especially for them. Women's neoprene waders are probably the most comfortable and dependable waders that are available to the female angler.

There are two basic designs of waders that are used when river fly fishing. One of the designs incorporate a sock foot. These are called stockingfoot waders. The second design has the boot as part of the wader. The ones that have the sock foot are usually wore in combination with wading boots. These boots usually have felt soles on them, and this keeps you from slipping around on the mossy covered rocks that are present in most rivers.

Fly Fishing Vests

Fly fishing vests are your best choice for carrying your fly boxes and everything else you could possibly need. Your fishing vest will keep all your tackle above the water line and making all your fly fishing tackle easily assessable while river fly fishing.

A flotation vest which is exactly like a fly fishing vest except it has a built in air bladder will keep you save even if you stumble and fall into the river. These fishing jackets are also called a PFD vest, which stands for "personal floatation devise". These air bladders are usually inflated using a CO2 cartage. The vest inflates usually by the means of a cord that you pull.

Wading Staff

Wading staff's are most useful when navigating a river with a good flow of water. Then again they are also useful as you get up there in age to help you balance even in the smaller streams that possess slippery rocks.

Wading staffs can be made up of many different things. They can be a branch that you find alongside the riverbank that you trim up to suit you. Some people take old broom handles or mop handles and in the bottom of the handle put in a nail or screw leaving it sticky out about an inch.

However the majority of staffs are bought in your local fishing supply store. These can be a one-piece or a multi-piece which is quite handy when storing. The two most common diameters are 1/2" and 3/4".

The 1/2" is perfect for lighter person fishing smaller streams. The 3/4" staff is great for the faster flowing waters that are sometimes presence in the river. The three-quarter staff usually comes with a double bungee cord which tends to hold the pieces together better.
